This past friday Lemuel and I celebrated another anniversary (yes, it’s like the hundredth) and because of my lactose intolerance currently at an all time high we opted for a new spot in Kloof st. that offers both vegan and non-vegan ice cream to treat ourselves. Founded by New Yorker-turned-Capetonian, Yann Rey, Unframed Ice cream parlor offers an unusual selection of innovative flavors that both shock and indulge the senses, with a vast selection of toppings to amp things up if you’re in to that.
I kept things simple with a scoop of Lemongrass infused Jasmine rice on a sugar cone topped with vegan dark chocolate sauce. I was absolutely blown away at the creamy consistency of the vegan ice cream – as most non-dairy alternative usually lack in this regard.
The flavor was a mouthful in both name and taste – but I enjoyed it from start to finish. The boyfriend went with two scoops of dairy ice cream and chose burnt white chocolate and salted caramel peanut which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you to the awesome staff for letting us try out a few flavors first and for the general warmth and friendly service – we will definitely be back for another taste adventure.
